A rare caddisfly, thought extinct since 2016, found alive in Wales highlights conservation successes and ongoing environmental threats.
A rare caddisfly species, Limnephilus pati, believed extinct in Britain since 2016, has been rediscovered at Cors Goch Nature Reserve in Anglesey, Wales, during a survey by Natur am Byth, RSPB, and North Wales Wildlife Trust.
Found in clean, calcium-rich wetland habitats, it is now known to exist in only three British locations.
The discovery underscores the value of ongoing conservation surveys and the fragile ecosystems that support such species, which are threatened by drying and agricultural pressures.
