A UK survey of 2,000 adults found that one in three would not know how to respond to someone having an epileptic seizure, with over half admitting they’ve never been taught what to do.
Many fear worsening the situation, and some mistakenly believe they should restrain the person or place objects in their mouth—actions experts discourage.
Only a minority recognize seizures beyond convulsions, and 16% assume someone else will help.
In contrast, people feel more confident handling broken bones, choking, or panic attacks.
