A New Zealand woman was punished for starving and abusing her puppy, Patchy, who died from neglect and injuries.

A woman in Tauranga, New Zealand, was sentenced for ill-treating a 5-month-old pitbull-cross puppy named Patchy, who was found severely emaciated with a fractured hip, a healed bullet wound, and a stomach full of fish bones. The puppy, suffering from malnutrition and untreated injuries, was humanely euthanized. The woman pleaded guilty to failing to provide proper food and care, claiming she couldn’t afford veterinary treatment. She received nine months’ supervision, 100 hours of community work, a three-year ban on owning animals, and was ordered to pay $828 in reparations and $250 in legal fees.
