Nacogdoches city and county approved tax hikes and new spending, effective October 1.
The City of Nacogdoches approved a 2025-2026 budget with a property tax rate of 57 cents per $100,000, up from 52 cents, and a 4% sanitation fee increase.
The city also approved a $240,000 project for Mill Pond Park improvements and a $454,000 purchase for five new police patrol units.
Nacogdoches County adopted a lower tax rate of 43 cents per $100, but still increased revenue by over $987,000, citing higher costs for juvenile detention, inmate housing, and indigent defense.
The county also finalized agreements with six other counties to expand juvenile offender housing and approved the retirement of Justice of the Peace Le Ann Goerner.
Both city and county tax changes take effect October 1.
