Low water and warm temps delay Salmon River fishing; closure may last until late October to protect salmon.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is delaying the opening of parts of the Salmon River, including its lower fly-fishing section, due to low water levels and warmer temperatures caused by a dry summer.
The closure, which could last until late October, aims to protect fish populations and support successful salmon spawning and egg collection at the Salmon River Fish Hatchery.
Modified water releases are also being implemented to maintain water levels.
Anglers are encouraged to use alternative fishing locations listed on the NYSDEC website.
