A loggerhead turtle named Barnacle Bill, rescued in Guernsey in 2023 after being stranded by a storm, is set to return to her natural habitat near the Azores after two years of delays due to Brexit-related paperwork issues. Found weighing under 1 kg and covered in barnacles, she was cared for by the GSPCA and now weighs over 13 kg. The repatriation was hindered by complications obtaining health certificates under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Despite a generous offer of a private jet, bureaucratic challenges delayed her release. Now cleared for return, Barnacle Bill is ready to be released into the wild.
