Justin Lee became first from his school to earn an associate degree before high school graduation via Dayton’s free college program.
Justin Lee, valedictorian of Thurgood Marshall STEM High School, became the first student from his school to earn an associate degree in psychology from Sinclair Community College before graduating high school, thanks to Dayton Public Schools' College Credit Plus program, which allows students to take college courses at no cost.
The district also saw academic improvements in its 2025 Ohio School Report Cards, with its Career-Technical Education program earning 4.5 stars and an 87% graduation rate, driven by expanded pathways and student support.
Additionally, Board Member Jocelyn Spencer Rhynard received the Ohio School Boards Association STAR Award and will be named a 2026 Master Board Member, recognizing her leadership and advocacy for public education since 2018.
