Indonesia seeks to boost its stake in Freeport mine to 63% amid license extension talks.
Indonesia is negotiating to increase its stake in PT Freeport Indonesia, the nation's largest gold and copper mine, with state fund Danantara aiming to acquire an additional 12% of shares.
This would raise government ownership from 51% to about 63%, following discussions to extend the mine’s license by 20 years, from 2041 to 2061.
The move, supported by President Joko Widodo, is progressing in final technical stages and is not expected to strain the state budget.
