Indonesia boosts high-value frankincense oil exports, raising revenue and supporting local industries.
Indonesia is advancing the downstream processing of high-quality frankincense/benzoin resin into essential oils to increase value and support small and medium industries, according to the Ministry of Industry.
This effort aligns with the government’s natural resource downstreaming strategy and enhances competitiveness in global markets.
The resin is widely used in perfumes, cosmetics, aromatherapy, and natural insecticides, with Indonesia exporting significant volumes of raw materials and higher-value downstream products.
In 2024, exports of raw natural gums, resins, and oleoresins reached $55.5 million, while downstream products like essential oils totaled $42.3 million, demonstrating a higher value per ton.
