Ghana’s tertiary education regulator, GTEC, has ordered Richard Kofi Asiedu, NDC Central Regional Chairman, to stop using the titles "Doctor" and "Professor," stating his degrees were honorary, not earned, and lack verifiable documentation.
The directive, issued in August 2025, is part of a nationwide effort to curb misuse of unearned academic titles in professional settings.
GTEC emphasized that honorary degrees do not grant official academic recognition.
Meanwhile, a Kumasi Technical University lecturer accused the NDC of enabling foreign-led illegal mining, known as galamsey, for political gain, sparking debate over the party’s environmental record.
Environmental advocates stress that galamsey is a national crisis requiring non-partisan solutions.
