Ghana warns of import surge from Togo threatening local cement industry.

The Ghana Chamber of Cement Manufacturers (COCMAG) warns that a surge in imports of Cimco cement from Togo is threatening local producers, particularly in the Volta Region and Ada, with potential spread to Accra. The influx, intensified over the past two months, risks undermining domestic production, causing job losses, and hindering Ghana’s industrialization goals. COCMAG CEO Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah has urged the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry to intervene, citing concerns over the long-term survival of local cement makers. The ministry has acknowledged the issue and is considering responses.
