Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused the Indian government of false claims in approving Adani Group’s Dhirauli coal mine project in Madhya Pradesh, asserting it lies in a Fifth Schedule area protected for tribal rights.
He disputes the Environment Ministry’s assertion that the land is not covered by the Fifth Schedule and challenges its claim that all Forest Rights Act procedures were completed, citing inconsistencies in official data.
Ramesh argues that community and habitat rights under the Act were not recognized, despite the project’s diversion of about 3,500 acres of forest land across five villages.
The Environment Ministry and Adani Group have not responded to the allegations.
