Climavision, a private weather technology company, is installing four new radars in Florida—Fort Myers, near Ocala, Dixie County, and southeast of Palm Beach County—to address coverage gaps in NOAA’s Doppler radar network.
The National Weather Service’s WSR-88D radars have a maximum range of 200 to 300 miles, leaving some areas without reliable detection of storms, showers, and thunderstorm rotation.
Climavision’s radars, part of a broader national effort, aim to enhance weather monitoring in these "Doppler dead zones."
The Fort Myers site is the first in Florida and the 30th nationwide, with all four Florida locations expected to be operational by mid-2026.
