Brothers Alder and Arturo Marin-Sotelo have pleaded guilty in connection with the 2022 shooting death of North Carolina Sheriff's Deputy Ned Byrd, a K-9 officer.
Alder, 28, admitted to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Arturo, 32, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact and received a sentence of eight to ten years.
The killing occurred when Deputy Byrd stopped a pickup truck in a rural area at night and was shot four times, including three times in the back of the head.
The brothers, originally from Mexico, were later arrested in western North Carolina.
They had previously faced murder charges and were scheduled for trial in September 2026.
