An 81-year-old woman accused of helping two men die via illegal drug sales faces bail after charges tied to a broader euthanasia probe.
81-year-old Elaine Arch-Rowe has been granted bail after being charged in a police investigation into the alleged assisted suicide of a Gold Coast man, with about 20 other deaths under scrutiny. She is accused of assisting Brett Daniel Taylor, 53, and Taylor’s father, 80, in an end-of-life business that allegedly provided a lethal veterinary drug, pentobarbitone, sourced under false pretenses. Arch-Rowe, a known supporter of a pro-euthanasia group, faces charges including attempted assisted suicide, trafficking and possession of dangerous drugs, and selling harmful substances. Police allege she attended a seminar with four bottles of the drug intending to sell them, citing recorded conversations with an undercover operative. Her lawyer claims the case is weak, asserting no evidence of intent to harm. She is banned from contacting co-accused and participating in certain groups. Her case returns to court on October 17.
