A woman faces manslaughter charges after a fire in Melbourne killed two young girls and injured a third.

A 26-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of negligent manslaughter and one count of negligently causing serious injury in connection with a house fire in Sydenham, Melbourne, on September 8, 2024. The fire, which broke out at a home on Fergus Court, led to the deaths of two young girls, aged five and one, who died three days later, and left a three-year-old boy with serious injuries. The boy, Kalais, was hospitalized for 10 days before being discharged. Emergency services responded to the scene, and the investigation into the fire's cause remains ongoing. The woman is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on September 17, 2025. The Coroners Court of Victoria is also investigating the fatalities.
