The U.S. Export-Import Bank has shown interest in providing up to $67 million in financing for Sunrise Energy Metals’ Syerston Scandium Project in Australia, which holds the world’s largest and highest-grade scandium deposit.
The project is seen as key to strengthening U.S. supply chains for critical minerals, especially after China’s 2025 export controls on rare earth metals.
The funding, potentially under the Supply Chain Resiliency Initiative and China Transformational Exports Program, could offer repayment terms of up to 15 years.
Sunrise is conducting a feasibility study due in mid to late October and seeking off-take agreements as it moves toward a final investment decision.
