US astronaut Sunita Williams led Expedition 72 on the ISS, completing 1,000 hours of research and advancing space tech before returning to Earth.
US astronaut Sunita Williams, commander of Expedition 72 to the International Space Station, emphasized teamwork, communication, and mutual support as critical during the mission, which began in September 2024 and exceeded its expected duration.
The crew conducted 1,000 hours of research in human health, materials science, biology, and fire safety, while advancing in-orbit metal 3D printing and preparing the first wooden satellite for deployment.
Williams shared these insights at a Washington, D.C., India-USA space collaboration event, where she joined fellow astronauts Nick Hague and Butch Wilmore, and Indian astronaut Shubanshu Shukla in a virtual discussion.
After returning, Williams and Wilmore began physical therapy at Johnson Space Center to adjust to Earth’s gravity.
