The Trump administration has ordered Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico to end their joint venture by January 1, 2026, citing anticompetitive effects and violations of bilateral agreements, particularly regarding airport slot allocations at Mexico City Airport.
The alliance, which coordinated scheduling, pricing, and capacity for about 60% of U.S.-Mexico City flights, is the fourth-largest international gateway to the U.S. Delta expressed disappointment, warning the move could cost up to $800 million annually in consumer benefits and harm U.S. jobs and communities.
While the government is not requiring Delta to sell its 20% stake in Aeromexico, the carriers may reapply for joint venture approval if circumstances change.
