Spokane extends downtown height limit rule to March 2026 for housing and growth.
The Spokane City Council has extended its interim zoning ordinance allowing taller buildings downtown, originally set to expire September 24, 2025, for six more months until March 24, 2026.
The move, supported by all council members except absent Councilmember Kitty Klitzke, gives the city’s Planning and Economic Development Department more time to study long-term impacts of changing height limits.
The temporary rule removed height restrictions in downtown while maintaining limits in other areas, aiming to support housing and economic growth as part of efforts to position Spokane among the nation’s top 100 cities.
