Seven former FARC leaders sentenced to eight years of reparations work for kidnappings during Colombia’s conflict.
Colombia’s Special Jurisdiction for Peace has sentenced seven former FARC leaders to eight years of reparations work for their roles in kidnappings during the country’s decades-long conflict.
The court found the rebels kidnapped civilians for ransom and held soldiers and politicians hostage to trade for imprisoned fighters.
As part of their sentences, the former leaders must help locate missing persons, remove landmines, and perform symbolic acts of reparation, while being monitored electronically.
This marks the first individual punishments issued by the peace tribunal, created under the 2016 peace deal, which is also investigating military leaders for war crimes.
