Igor Grechushkin, the Russian-Cypriot owner of the Rhosus cargo ship linked to the 2020 Beirut port explosion, was arrested in Bulgaria on September 15.
The ship had carried ammonium nitrate to Beirut in 2013, which was later stored improperly and exploded, killing at least 218 people, injuring over 6,000, and causing massive damage.
Lebanese authorities had issued arrest warrants for Grechushkin and the ship’s captain, Boris Prokoshev, in 2016 and 2017.
Grechushkin, detained at Sofia’s airport after arriving from Cyprus, faces possible extradition to Lebanon for questioning.
