PH Supreme Court halts new election law for Bangsamoro region ahead of Oct. 13 vote.
The Philippine Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order halting the implementation of Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No.
77, which redrew parliamentary districts in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ahead of its first parliamentary elections on October 13, 2025.
The order, effective immediately, prevents the Commission on Elections and the Bangsamoro Transition Authority from enforcing the law while two petitions challenge its constitutionality, alleging it violates election rules and undermines free and credible polls.
The decision comes amid legal disputes over the law’s passage and its impact on voting arrangements, including the removal of seven seats originally reserved for Sulu province.
The outcome could significantly affect representation in the region’s fledgling autonomous government.
