OpenAI hires ex-xAI CFO Mike Liberatore to lead business finance, effective Sept. 16.

OpenAI has hired Mike Liberatore, former CFO of Elon Musk's xAI, as its business finance officer, effective September 16. Liberatore will oversee AI infrastructure, report to CFO Sarah Friar, and collaborate with Greg Brockman’s team on scaling compute access. He previously worked at Airbnb and was involved in xAI’s $5 billion debt and equity raises before leaving in July after a three-month tenure. The move comes amid ongoing rivalry between OpenAI and Musk’s companies.
