New Zealand serial rapist Frankie Edwards cleared of 2006 Epsom kidnapping due to evidence flaws and false confession.
Frankie Te Uira Edwards, a New Zealand serial rapist, has been cleared of a 2006 kidnapping in Epsom by the Court of Appeal after a review by the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
Edwards, who was already serving time for multiple assaults, had pleaded guilty to the kidnapping but later claimed the admission was a mistake.
The CCRC found significant discrepancies between Edwards’ appearance and the victim’s description of the attacker, including skin tone, body hair, and tattoos, along with police failures to question him about the incident.
The court ruled it was impossible to determine why he originally confessed.
Edwards remains in prison for his admitted crimes and is set to appear before the Parole Board in December.
