India's top court urges government to fix tribunal facilities for retired judges or dissolve them.
The Indian Supreme Court has told the central government to either improve facilities for retired high court judges serving in tribunals or abolish these quasi-judicial bodies, citing inadequate resources as a key reason judges are reluctant to serve.
The bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and R Mahadevan emphasized that failing to provide proper infrastructure undermines the dignity of former judges and urged the government to act.
If improvements aren’t made, the court suggested transferring all tribunal cases back to high courts.
