The Indian government has directed retail chains to prominently display and advertise GST-related discounts following a tax overhaul effective September 22. The DPIIT instructed stores to show "GST discount" on receipts and bills, highlight price reductions through posters and ads, and focus on high-impact items like soaps, shampoos, cars, and air conditioners. The revised GST structure lowers rates to 5% for essential goods and 18% for others, eliminating previous 12% and 28% slabs, with basic food items remaining tax-free. The move aims to boost festive season demand by making tax benefits visible to consumers.
