India begins voter roll training in West Bengal ahead of 2026 elections amid political opposition.
The Election Commission of India is beginning training for poll officials in West Bengal ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for next year’s assembly elections.
Led by State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal, the training will prepare officials to guide booth-level officers in accurately updating voter lists.
Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti will visit Kolkata to review preparations.
While the EC emphasizes the SIR’s role in ensuring electoral accuracy, the ruling Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have opposed the move, alleging political interference.
