India added 23 GW of renewable energy capacity between April and August 2025, accelerating its path toward a 500 GW renewable target by 2030. This brings total non-fossil capacity to about 252 GW, with half of the country’s electricity capacity now from non-fossil sources. India has surpassed its Paris Agreement NDC goals five years early. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has provided solar power to around 2 million homes, aiming for 1 crore homes by 2029. Growth was driven by expanded solar manufacturing, PLI incentives, and policy reforms.
