Heat in Bangladesh caused 250 million lost workdays and $1.33–1.78 billion in losses in 2024.
A new World Bank report reveals that rising temperatures in Bangladesh caused 250 million lost workdays and $1.33–1.78 billion in economic losses in 2024, equivalent to 0.3–0.4% of GDP.
Since 1980, the country’s maximum temperature has risen by 1.1°C and the "feels like" temperature by 4.5°C, increasing health issues like diarrhea, respiratory diseases, fatigue, and mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
The report urges urgent, coordinated action to strengthen national preparedness, improve health systems, expand urban green spaces, and collect better data to reduce heat-related risks and protect livelihoods.
