The Bombay High Court has ruled that not everyone can appeal an acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, questioning whether victims’ family members were examined as witnesses during the trial.
The court is hearing an appeal by relatives of six people killed in the bomb blast that injured over 100 others in Maharashtra’s Nashik district.
The appeal challenges the special NIA court’s July 31 acquittal of seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit, citing insufficient evidence and flaws in the investigation.
The court emphasized that appeals must be grounded in proper legal standing and ordered further hearing on Wednesday.
