India expands opium poppy farming by 23.5% to boost medical supply and self-reliance.
The Indian government has announced a new licensing policy for opium poppy cultivation for 2025-26, allowing around 121,000 farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh to grow opium.
This is a 23.5% increase from the previous year.
