Hillwalkers in Scotland are sought to find fragments of a recent meteor explosion for scientific study.
Hillwalkers in Scotland are being asked to look for fragments of a meteor that exploded over northern Scotland on July 3.
The UK Fireball Alliance has tracked the path of the meteor and believes fragments could be scattered in several Highlands locations, especially around Ben Alder.
Researchers hope to learn more about the early Solar System from these fragments.
They ask that if found, the rocks should be reported with a photo and GPS location, and wrapped in aluminum foil or a clean sandwich bag.
The last meteorite found in Scotland was in 1917.
