Study shows Ireland leads in palliative care understanding, but community support awareness lacks.
A study by Queen's University Belfast for the All-Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care found that understanding of palliative care in Ireland is ahead of other countries, with the Republic of Ireland scoring 75.8% and Northern Ireland 67.5%.
The island's overall score of 68.1% is higher than the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Australia.
However, there are still gaps in local communities' knowledge about available services, particularly in "support in my community," which scored 60.4%.
The study emphasizes the need to improve awareness and access to palliative care services.
This research coincides with Palliative Care Week, which runs from September 7-13.
El estudio muestra que Irlanda lidera en la comprensión de los cuidados paliativos, pero carece de concienciación sobre el apoyo de la comunidad.
