WHO ends global health emergency for Mpox as cases drop worldwide, but warns it still concerns Africa.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has ended the global public health emergency for Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) due to a significant decline in cases and deaths in affected countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that while the global emergency status has been lifted, the virus remains a concern in Africa.
Over 34,000 cases and 138 deaths have been reported globally since the beginning of the year.
