A former chemistry teacher, Justin Scarlett, avoided being banned from teaching after he drove over the legal alcohol limit claiming he was fleeing a knife attack. Despite being convicted and banned from driving for 20 months, the Teacher Regulation Authority found his story compelling and allowed him to continue teaching. Scarlett claimed he was stabbed and couldn't reach the police, so he drove away for safety.
