India unveils its first homegrown 32-bit microprocessor, "Vikram," aiming to reduce chip imports.

India has unveiled its first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor, named "Vikram," at the Semicon India 2025 event. Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation's Semiconductor Laboratory, the Vikram processor is designed to handle harsh environmental conditions and is a significant step towards reducing India's reliance on imported chips. The government has also approved 10 new semiconductor projects aimed at transforming India into a global semiconductor hub.
