Teen advocate pushes for more funding to address dire backlog of disability assessments in Ireland.
14-year-old disability advocate Cara Darmody is campaigning for more funding to reduce the backlog of assessments of need (AONs) for children with disabilities in Ireland.
These assessments, which identify children's health needs and service requirements, face a backlog projected to reach nearly 25,000 by year-end, with only 7% completed on time.
Darmody plans to meet Tánaiste Simon Harris to urge additional funding for her "Cara's Fund," which currently has €10 million, arguing the situation should be treated as a national crisis.
