The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster in China has become the world's top innovation hotspot, surpassing Tokyo-Yokohama, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The shift in rankings is due to WIPO including venture capital investments in its criteria. China and the U.S. lead with the most clusters in the top 100, contributing significantly to global patents and scientific publications.
