SMU Mustangs beat East Texas A&M Lions 42-13 in their season opener, marking SMU's seventh straight opening win.

In their season opener, the No. 16 SMU Mustangs defeated East Texas A&M Lions 42-13. Kevin Jennings led SMU with two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown, completing 22 of 30 passes for 260 yards. SMU's Ahmaad Moses also returned an interception for a touchdown. East Texas A&M scored through a field goal by Ozlo Rigby and a late touchdown run by Eric Rodriguez. This win marks SMU's seventh consecutive season-opening victory.
