Chinese and Maldivian presidents meet to discuss deepening trade and Belt and Road cooperation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu in Tianjin during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. Both leaders discussed deepening ties through the Free Trade Agreement and advancing Belt and Road cooperation. They agreed to expand collaboration in areas like fisheries, environmental protection, and disaster management. Muizzu expressed interest in increasing trade, investment, and tourism ties with China. This visit marks Muizzu's second to China, reflecting a shift in the Maldives' foreign relations.
