Assembly of First Nations meets to discuss major infrastructure projects with government for the first time.
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will hold its annual general assembly starting September 3, marking the first time it will formally engage with governments on major infrastructure projects on behalf of over 600 First Nations chiefs.
The AFN, led by Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak, will discuss resolutions related to federal major projects legislation, which has faced opposition from some First Nations leaders over concerns of insufficient rights protection.
The assembly will also address issues such as the drug crisis and child welfare reform, with federal ministers invited to attend.
