The Boston Red Sox have released veteran pitcher Walker Buehler, who struggled with a 5.45 ERA this season, and promoted top prospect Payton Tolle to make his major league debut. Buehler, a former All-Star with the Los Angeles Dodgers, signed a one-year, $21.05 million deal with the Red Sox but failed to meet expectations. The team also recalled utility player Nick Sogard and optioned outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia to Triple-A Worcester.
