Nonverbal autistic boy Bryan Vasquez found dead in canal after escaping home; faced alligator attack.
Twelve-year-old Bryan Vasquez, a nonverbal autistic boy, was found dead in a New Orleans canal after a two-week search. He died from blunt force trauma caused by an alligator and drowning. Bryan had escaped his home on August 14 and was seen on doorbell camera footage wearing only a diaper. His body was found about 200 yards from where the search began. The New Orleans Police Department faced criticism for a nearly five-hour delay in responding to the initial missing person report, leading to an internal investigation. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has been asked to remove nuisance alligators from the area.
