A woman died in police custody in Christchurch after being tasered while intoxicated and armed.

A woman died in a Christchurch police cell in New Zealand after being tasered by police. The incident began when officers were called to a Rakaia property where the intoxicated woman, armed with a knife, was hurting herself and threatening others. Despite attempts to defuse the situation, police tasered her. She was later found unresponsive in her cell. The case is under investigation by the Coroner and the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
