Coco Gauff, the third seed and reigning French Open champion, narrowly won her first-round match at the US Open against Ajla Tomljanovic, 6-4, 6-7 (2/7), 7-5, despite 59 unforced errors and 10 double faults. Gauff recently swapped coaches to improve her serve but admitted the tournament preparation was mentally exhausting. She will face Donna Vekic in the next round.
