China tests using electric vehicles as mobile power banks in Guangzhou, balancing grid demand.
China is piloting a program in Guangzhou using electric vehicles (EVs) as mobile power banks.
The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) service, launched by the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau and GAC Group, lets EV owners charge their cars during off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper, then discharge the stored power back to the grid during peak hours to earn a profit.
This initiative helps balance grid demand and could mobilize up to 600,000 EVs by 2028, creating a virtual power plant.
