TotalEnergies, Equinor, and Shell have launched the Northern Lights project, storing CO2 from a cement plant in Norway, marking a significant step in carbon capture and storage. The first phase can store 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually and is fully booked, with plans for a second phase to increase capacity over 5 million tonnes by 2028. The project includes new ships for CO2 transport, aiming to help European industries reduce emissions.
