Etomidate, an anaesthetic often used in vape pods, will be classified as a Class C illegal drug in Singapore starting September 1.
This change, announced by Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, will make possession and use of etomidate subject to harsher penalties, including up to 10 years in jail and a $20,000 fine.
Currently, the substance is regulated as a poison.
