Spain faced its most intense heatwave on record from August 3 to 18, with temperatures averaging 4.6°C above previous highs, leading to severe wildfires and over 1,100 heat-related deaths. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) noted this is part of a trend since 1975, with five of the six most extreme heatwaves occurring since 2019, attributing the increase to climate change.
